Finally saw Twilight and I have to say that I'm more in love with the Cullen family than ever. I think Esme was the cutest thing in the movie. These are my first animated icons-I might be addicted :) Comment, credit and enjoy!

Deathly Hallows review

Warning: spoilers galore and much rambling ahead.

I finished the book last Sunday night. While I’m usually an instant gratification kind of girl, I put off finishing the book. I did the pre-order from Amazon and got the book early on Saturday but I was in and out all day so I only read a 1/3 of the book. I went out Saturday night and didn’t read too much after I got home. Then Sunday was the day of reading. It was one of the most perfect days, the weather was gorgeous, and I sat outside on my rocking chair with a cup of tea and read in bits and spurts. I kept reading a couple of chapters at a time, then putting the book down. Then, when I couldn’t stand it anymore I’d pick it back up and have another go at it. I absolutely loved it. The writing is great so far, plot comes a little bit loose in places, but other than that it seems fairly seamless. Of course there were parts I wanted explained a little bit more, expanded upon but all-in-all I thought it was amazing.

I loved the fact that Harry’s temptation of the DH was mirrored as Dumbledore’s, but that Harry was the ‘better man’. There were many times when tears came to my eyes as I was reading the book, and not just at the same parts. Hedwig was horrible, I never thought about her fate because I thought that it was always a given. One of Harry’s first real connections with the wizzarding world. Plus I always lose it when an animal dies. Moody was quick, but it was Dobby who broke me. I always liked Dobby but he was always a bit annoying. His steadfast devotion to Harry was beautiful and JKR spent so much time on his death that I was just a mess. The clothes, Harry burying Dobby himself and the white stone. When they mentioned the weeds grown up around the grave it reminded me of Where the Red Fern Grows, and that just made me cry harder.

It was unbelievably cruel to kill off only one Weasley twin, probably the most cruel thing she could have done besides killing off Ron and Ginny (or Neville, or Luna, or Mr. Weasley). Also, when I finally realized that Sirius would not be coming back from the veil (my delusions keep me afloat-don’t judge) was a sad, sad moment for me, although it was a little better when Remus died to join his friends.

When Snape died and the last thing he wanted to see was Lily’s eyes; that brought more tears to my eyes. I liked the idea that Snape knew Lilly before Hogwarts, and it calls back to Ootp (I think) when Petunia was talking about "that boy". I would have liked Snape to be the one to tell Voldy that he was loyal to Dumbledore, so I felt a little short-changed at that point.

I don’t read the Harry Potter books for shipping, that’s what fanfic is for and to be honest I don’t think her strength is romance, although Ron and Hermione were done well. But I was always a fan of Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny because they would ultimately be happy together. Harry never saw Hermione in a romantic light, especially since he knew that Ron has loved Hermione for years, but the whole “I think of Hermione like a sister, I thought you knew that” was a bit heavy-handed.

Now for all the other times that I teared up just because:

Kreacher: How I loved him in this book. After Harry gave him the fake locket and then when he led the House Elves into battle for Harry and Regulus.

Luna: How she painted the 5 of them on the ceiling with the golden thread of FRIENDS was so touching and when Harry wasn’t able to see any of the people that he truly loved, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, the Weasleys and Luna.

Neville: continuing the DA; slaying the snake and just because.

Percy: When Percy comes back to the family fold. I was so sure that he would at some point just because the books couldn’t end with a Weasley being apart from the family(*sob*Fred*sob*). It also good to note that he does have sense of humor.

Ron: Ron kicked so much ass in this book, apart from the whole leaving thing. He’s really grown into his own by this time. When they were in the dungeons and Hermione was being tortured, Ron just broke me, as he did when he saved Harry in the water.

Ginny: Ginny wasn’t in the novel all that much, which I was okay with even though she is one of my favorite characters, because it is Harry’s story. She was there for Harry in the beginning and his one true source of comfort throughout the novel. Plus she had to stay in the RoR and was not happy about it J I don’t understand all the Ginny-hate that is out there. Granted, it does seem to generally be people who are extremely pro Harry/Hermione or even Harry/Luna but still, she is an extremely powerful witch who speaks her mind. You gotta love that. Although I’m so glad this book put an end (hopefully) to the whole love potion on Harry thing.

Loved Draco and Narcissa in this book, although I thought the Lucius stuff came out of nowhere.

Of course there were things that I missed out on seeing that I’m sure will be explored in lots of lovely fanfic; lots of Ron/Hermione parts-after the torture scene, when they were down in the CoS and after the battle. Exactly what happened to Remus and Tonks, where Arthur was during the fighting, how George reacted after *sob*Fred*sob*, what happened to Kreacher, and what everyone did with their lives and careers.

I’m probably in the minority but I really liked the Epilogue. It ended as it should have, the Trio together (along with Ginny!) happy and content. He and Ginny honored his parents and two of the greatest men he’s know; Dumbledore and Snape. I fully expect the next two (twins of course) to be named Sirius and Remus. Harry finally has what he has always wanted; a family. All is well.

Musings on all things Potter or OotP kicks ass

So I just saw OotP and it was awesome. I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD, but it's up there with PoA. I enjoyed the music, although I'm not sure why everything is so damn loud in theaters anymore.

I was surprised that they didn't mention anything about how the prophecy could have been about Neville at one point. Of course there were parts that I was upset they left out, but that's always going to happen. Ginny is one of my favorite characters so I missed a lot of her parts, although I loved how powerful the film showed she was.

I loved the Patronuses, much better than in PoA. The girls had the coolest ones, Ginny's horse, Luna's hare and Hermione's otter were marvelous. The colors, the saturation and hues were brilliant and the scenery was gorgeous. There wasn't enough Tonks, Sirius, Lupin or the twins. #12 Grimmauld Place wasn't anything like I pictured, nor was prophecy room at the MoM. The prophecy room reminded me of the warehouse in the X-files that holds all the alien stuff for some reason. I absolutely loved the MoM scenes in the beginning and at the end, the place was gorgeous. I didn't like the animation on Grawp and that they switched it around from the book.

For the most part I liked the acting, the Dursley's were over-the-top as usual, so I won't mind if we never see them in a movie again. Rupert was brilliant as always and I liked Evanna. Luna wasn't as loopy as I expected, she seemed grounded during parts of it.

Throughout the movie I kept thinking about different scenes that I would like to use for iconing, especially scenes that were already shown in trailers or interviews cause the resolution was so much better.

All in all, I loved it, now I can't wait for the DVD to come out!

Woo-freaking-hoo! I finally have a LJ account. I'm no stranger to the internet, been around since 97, but this is my first online journal/blog/whatever.
